The story of Fairytales and Tiny Tails Rescue
Hi there! August (founder and president) here!
If you have a moment and want to learn about how FTTR was created, sit back, and start reading!
Since I was a little kid, I have always been incredibly connected to animals. I had three dogs that I grew up with, from ages 3-18, and they were not just dogs, but they were my sisters. They had unconditional love for me as I did for them. I also had a cat during that time, and to be completely honest I was not a full “cat person” as Topper, the cat in question, was not a super loving cat (as some are! but we love them nonetheless.)
At the age of 15, I started volunteering at any rescue center I could; just for fun. At the time, I never imagined it would lead to a lifelong passion, let alone the creation of my own rescue. But those experiences opened my eyes to the tireless dedication of the people working to save homeless pets. Their compassion and determination left a lasting impression on me. When I was in high school, I was volunteering any time I could because I fell in love with caring for animals. All the while, still not thinking about making this a dream job, silly me.
In August 2024, Paige and I moved to Columbus, Ohio. Although it was bittersweet to leave, we were determined to continue our mission in Columbus.
Now, we are trying to build up funding first before having kittens in our care, instead of the other way around (we learned the hard way that not having the funding first is certainly not ideal.) Our goal is to ensure that the kittens of Columbus and the Central Ohio area are taken care of, but not only that, we want to bring the kittens of southern states up to Ohio for adoption. The heartbreaking reality is that the homeless animal population is drastically larger in southern states, and we feel a deep responsibility to continue helping the communities that shaped my journey and inspired this rescue.
In 2023, Paige (cofounder) and I started working for a shelter in Texas while we were in college. Life had a funny way of redirecting my life, but the universe was pointing me in the direction of making this my daily job. While working for this shelter in Texas, and due to their protocols and procedures, they were not able to take in any and all kittens. By having to say no to the public if they had kittens they found off the streets, there were scenarios that we could not let the public leave with the kitten in good faith. Even though, I was not a cat person per say, I ended up taking in kittens, fostering them, caring for them, and finding them homes outside of the shelter that I worked for.
Five months later, we decided that we wanted to start my own foster-based rescue center in Texas. Within nine months and lots of trial and errors later, we had a community behind us helping Fairytales and Tiny Tail Rescue’s (FTTR) mission. We had over 150 kittens that had positive outcomes!

Now, we’re ready to take the next step—but we can’t do it alone. To make our dream a reality, we need the support of volunteers, financial partners, and compassionate individuals who are willing to grow with us. Together, we can create a brighter future for countless kittens in need.
Here’s a couple of .5x’s of our managers, Nellie and Paprika, as a reward for reading all that!
